Double take

O.K., I am not making up this up for the sake of a blog post, but having an obligatory scan over the British Fashion Awards photos, which happened a couple of hours ago - oh yes I'm on the fashion game people, I saw this picture and thought, oh that's a nice dress, Claudia Winkleman, well played! (For those of you who do not reside in the UK, Claudia is a well-known TV presenter).

But after a double take, hang on a minute there, hold on to your hat, that is actually Alexa Chung!! Decked out in her favourite cat shoes of course.

And here is Claudia herself in all her fringed glory. Would you agree? Please tell me I'm not just going completely insane?

p.s. Totally bored by VB and her winning designer brand of the year? Don't get me started..

PIT STOP: Hix at Selfridges

Today I'm starting a new feature..the best places to shop and stop for fuel and shop some more. Food is my second passion after the F word, so I shall be a greedy so and so and combine the two. LOVE.

Mark Hix, the ex head chef at Ivy and J Sheekey, is slowly and quietly taking over the London restaurant scene, now with six eponymous restaurants and a hip new bar whose cocktails are the talk of the town.

After a trudge through Oxford Street you will be deserving of a break even before you hit the rest of Selfridges. Go up the spiral staircase next to Lanvin and a wonderfully airy haven awaits your sore feet. Overlooking the plethora of handbags and accessories, Hix and Selfridges is the most perfect place either to grab a quiet glass of bubbly at the caviar bar whilst pondering the age-old question of Gucci or Prada, or enjoy a full three course meal. The food is British themed and simply delicious. My personal favourite is the steak tartare.

When I was last there, Mr Mark Hix himself was dining at a table across from me. He caught me lookin'.  Maybe I should have asked for free oysters in return for a blog post..

And all this just inches away from the biggest shoe department in the world..*SIGH*

Good things come to those who wait..

Martin Margiela wedge ankle boot

I saw these beauties on net-a-porter many months ago and I had that shoe moment. You know the moment when they call out to you, saying BUY ME AND YOUR LIFE WILL BE COMPLETE and you think oh those will go so well with my 7/8 jeans then you glance at the price with some dread (because they are by Martin Margiela) and then your hopes and dreams vanish with a puff of smoke because there is no way in hell you could buy these and survive until the next payday.

WELL, I stumbled across this boutique in Surrey called CSee, which has an online boutique (visit it here) and what do I know, I have a cheeky perusal of the sale section and there sits the exact same pair of boots! At a rather bargainous £160 down from £535, and that's a saving of a pair of Lanvin pumps don't you know!

So yes, they are a little (early) Xmas treat to myself, and are packaged and on their way now!

Ho, ho, ho!

Observations

Gossip Girl 100th episode party
(in true fugtastic style)

Points I have observed:

1. Blake Lively actually looks bad. Like she doesn't look like the usual hotness dazzling blonde smiliness. And it takes one ultimate fugly dress to do it. Eurgh I'm developing an allergic reaction to those silver tassels..

2. Then add in the dimunitive and slightly annoying Chloe Moretz. One Lively plus one Moretz equals exponential rise in clashing ugliness.

3. A fourteen year old in Stella McCartney? With opaque tights? And two-tone ankle strap shoes? Yup you said it.

Back in the Game

It's been a busy few weeks, hence the absence (sorry loves)..and to make up for what was a fashion-less time, what better way to get back in the game than to SHOP?!

After a ye old country pub meal I headed to Bicester for a quick peruse - Bicester Village is a designer outlet shopping centre near Oxford (about an hour by car from London). A must for all fashion knowledagbles. Here you will find last season's collections at attractive prices. And since my last visit they've added many more formidable brands such as Prada, Rupert Sanderson, Valentino, Jimmy Choo and most excitingly CELINE (my unrequited love) to their list. Other favourites include Marni, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Dior, DvF and Burberry. On this occasion I just couldn't resist nabbing a YSL downtown tote in navy..less than half price. If that doesn't tempt you I don't know what will. You like?

My must-dos for Bicester:
1. You will need your sensible fashion head and hawk eyes to sieve out the fashion graveyard from the investment classics.
2. Pick up a Prada handbag at more than 40% off. Think Selfridges sale without the rampaging.
3. Head to Starbucks, grab a novel from their huge collection and get comfy on the sofa.
3. Head to Marni for the epic racks of signature statement necklaces and imagine its your own private collection!
4. GO TO CELINE. DO IT NOW.
