Death by Shopping

What kind of fool goes shopping on Oxford Street two weekends before Christmas. On a Saturday.
Well that would be me folks! With next week all booked up, I reluctantly and rather desperately made my way to Bond Street station..and I was met with this.

Not even the carols and assortment of festive lights could lighten my mood as I jostled my way through the dense mass of human beings..(especially outside Boots where they were throwing unidentifiable freebies into the crowd).

I am only writing this as a warning to all you last minute shoppers out there.
Never mind the joy of giving this Xmas, if you prefer the joy the living, save your pennies for the Boxing day sales for some quality bargain hunting.

Phew..now to put my feet up.

The Theory is..

Theyskens' Theory shoulder bag
£275

Why is it the more I try to do find gifts for other people,
the more I find things I would like in my stocking on Christmas day?

Please Santa, I have been a very good girl this year..

Vintage Rosie

Did you know Rosie Huntington-Whiteley used to SMILE back in the day?

The old Rosie seems far more fun. Like she knows how to let her hair down and get down dirty. Now she's far too serious in her very important business of pouting and jutting her angular elbow out. Also she looks like she's eaten something in the past week which makes me happy.

Anyone else prefer the pre-Transformers Rosie?

Nail gossip

Fashion Clout here. Your one and only source to the scandalous lives of fashion's elite.

I am loving this LILY GOSSIP GIRL COLLECTION by Nails Inc. Apparently, if you put  1-2 coats of "High Society" over 2 coats of "Lily" nail polish, you get this shimmering futuristic metallic effect.

I love jazzed up nails so I shall investigate these claims and get back to you..

In the meantime you can purchase them for £20 here.

You might prefer the Blair or Serena..

Double take

O.K., I am not making up this up for the sake of a blog post, but having an obligatory scan over the British Fashion Awards photos, which happened a couple of hours ago - oh yes I'm on the fashion game people, I saw this picture and thought, oh that's a nice dress, Claudia Winkleman, well played! (For those of you who do not reside in the UK, Claudia is a well-known TV presenter).

But after a double take, hang on a minute there, hold on to your hat, that is actually Alexa Chung!! Decked out in her favourite cat shoes of course.

And here is Claudia herself in all her fringed glory. Would you agree? Please tell me I'm not just going completely insane?

p.s. Totally bored by VB and her winning designer brand of the year? Don't get me started..

PIT STOP: Hix at Selfridges

Today I'm starting a new feature..the best places to shop and stop for fuel and shop some more. Food is my second passion after the F word, so I shall be a greedy so and so and combine the two. LOVE.

Mark Hix, the ex head chef at Ivy and J Sheekey, is slowly and quietly taking over the London restaurant scene, now with six eponymous restaurants and a hip new bar whose cocktails are the talk of the town.

After a trudge through Oxford Street you will be deserving of a break even before you hit the rest of Selfridges. Go up the spiral staircase next to Lanvin and a wonderfully airy haven awaits your sore feet. Overlooking the plethora of handbags and accessories, Hix and Selfridges is the most perfect place either to grab a quiet glass of bubbly at the caviar bar whilst pondering the age-old question of Gucci or Prada, or enjoy a full three course meal. The food is British themed and simply delicious. My personal favourite is the steak tartare.

When I was last there, Mr Mark Hix himself was dining at a table across from me. He caught me lookin'.  Maybe I should have asked for free oysters in return for a blog post..

And all this just inches away from the biggest shoe department in the world..*SIGH*

Good things come to those who wait..

Martin Margiela wedge ankle boot

I saw these beauties on net-a-porter many months ago and I had that shoe moment. You know the moment when they call out to you, saying BUY ME AND YOUR LIFE WILL BE COMPLETE and you think oh those will go so well with my 7/8 jeans then you glance at the price with some dread (because they are by Martin Margiela) and then your hopes and dreams vanish with a puff of smoke because there is no way in hell you could buy these and survive until the next payday.

WELL, I stumbled across this boutique in Surrey called CSee, which has an online boutique (visit it here) and what do I know, I have a cheeky perusal of the sale section and there sits the exact same pair of boots! At a rather bargainous £160 down from £535, and that's a saving of a pair of Lanvin pumps don't you know!

So yes, they are a little (early) Xmas treat to myself, and are packaged and on their way now!

Ho, ho, ho!

Observations

Gossip Girl 100th episode party
(in true fugtastic style)

Points I have observed:

1. Blake Lively actually looks bad. Like she doesn't look like the usual hotness dazzling blonde smiliness. And it takes one ultimate fugly dress to do it. Eurgh I'm developing an allergic reaction to those silver tassels..

2. Then add in the dimunitive and slightly annoying Chloe Moretz. One Lively plus one Moretz equals exponential rise in clashing ugliness.

3. A fourteen year old in Stella McCartney? With opaque tights? And two-tone ankle strap shoes? Yup you said it.

Back in the Game

It's been a busy few weeks, hence the absence (sorry loves)..and to make up for what was a fashion-less time, what better way to get back in the game than to SHOP?!

After a ye old country pub meal I headed to Bicester for a quick peruse - Bicester Village is a designer outlet shopping centre near Oxford (about an hour by car from London). A must for all fashion knowledagbles. Here you will find last season's collections at attractive prices. And since my last visit they've added many more formidable brands such as Prada, Rupert Sanderson, Valentino, Jimmy Choo and most excitingly CELINE (my unrequited love) to their list. Other favourites include Marni, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Dior, DvF and Burberry. On this occasion I just couldn't resist nabbing a YSL downtown tote in navy..less than half price. If that doesn't tempt you I don't know what will. You like?

My must-dos for Bicester:
1. You will need your sensible fashion head and hawk eyes to sieve out the fashion graveyard from the investment classics.
2. Pick up a Prada handbag at more than 40% off. Think Selfridges sale without the rampaging.
3. Head to Starbucks, grab a novel from their huge collection and get comfy on the sofa.
3. Head to Marni for the epic racks of signature statement necklaces and imagine its your own private collection!
4. GO TO CELINE. DO IT NOW.

Erdem. It's in the detail

Erdem Spring Summer 2012

Erdem is one the greats. Noone can outdo Erdem's prints. Like an expensive garden party filled with ladies and English roses. I think it's the epitome of the image women would like to project - the modern lady.

And Erdem is my fantasy wedding dress designer. Imagine the trails of Erdem lace! *Shudder*

BUT this is my absolute favourite -
not even supermodels can escape the hazards of walking in new shoes..

The Pippa Appeal

Will SOMEONE get this girl a new handbag please?

Pippa Middleton has a favourite bag. You know the one..that tan leather Modalu creation which is now pretty much synonymous with Pips. Unfortunately for her, it's noone else's favourite.

So I say to you, what about this Prada Python number? It's in the style of a briefcase, with a long strap and uber smart but BANG on trend

Prada, £3200

Too much? For a more gentle introduction to fashion, what about an upgrade to a Chloe Madeleine leather duffel bag. A far more sophisticated shape and an eye-popping shade of tan.

Chloe, £1250

If in doubt, start a blog..

So all I know about Olivia Palermo is that she likes to mix prints and has a thing for statement necklaces and leather shorts. Oh and she has incredibly shiny hair (seriously, this girl would sell more hairspray than Cheryl ever could). But what does she actually DO? You know, like on a day to day basis..how does she fill the time between breakfast and teatime? Well she's found herself a proper job!
Well, not quite..

So she's just launched her new blog - surprisingly named oliviapalermo.com - but fear not, she won't have to work those manicured nails too hard! She has hired a team of fifteen staff, including an editor at large and eleven regular contributors, as well as someone to some arty drawings. So it should be more like oliviapalermo-and-other-contributing-editors.com then..

One to add to the reading list?

Beat the shop

This is why I am a firm believer in shopping around before you buy. So I found this gorgeous fox print cashmere scarf..

via net-a-porter.com

But naughty Liberty is charging a WHOOPING £25 more than net-a-porter. Granted net-a-porter charges a ten pound delivery charge (but it's next day with a shiny black box and bow trimmings) and Liberty boasts a prime shopping location..BUT STILL! That's another £25 towards the Boxing day sales fund no?

Let this be a lesson to all you savvy shoppers out there :)

STELLLLA!!

Stella is my kind of girl. If I could choose one girl to open and close my fabulous ready-to-wear collection in Paris..

The finale is an absolute killer. The contrasting print, trim and swirly paisley goodness with nude heels makes my heart sing with joy.

And as for the battle for the best dressed FRONT ROWer..

 Vs.

WHO DO YOU PREFER?

Alaia under 50 quid

Ok I love Alaia.
Not that I can afford anything that has been touched by its magical fashion wand..however there is a way round this.

You can now have your very own pair of Alaia tights for a bargainous £50!! (Click here to purchase) Or you could buy around 25 pairs of very similar black opaques for the same sum. Maybe I should conduct a tights study. Primark vs. Alaia..on categories including number of bobbles produced and shininess. Hmm..

Flavour of the month

From top: Vogue Fashion Celebration Night, Paris ; Pucci Spring/summer 2011; Stella Mccartney Fall 2011; Chanel cruise 2012; Prada spring/summer 2012 ; in Gucci ; Dolce & Gabbana spring/summer 2012

I have several imminent questions for Natasha Poly..

1. Seriously did you get any sleep the past few weeks? Flitting from the runway of Fendi, Stella, Chanel, Pucci, Salvatore, Balmain, Lanvin, Cavalli and the next..PHEW!
2. How did you manage to bag the hottest looks of all the collections? Take for example THAT polka dot Stella Mccartney dress, already spotted on Kate Winslet, and the most epic hanky Pucci dress.
3. How do you manage to look so different in every shot? I think it's something called versatility..
4. Most importantly, did you get to keep that Prada car clutch?

HEART!
